Ensure transparency, corporates told

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
Baroda, Nov 19 : Vigilance Commissioner VS Mathur on Sunday called upon corporate leaders to set the operating systems in proper perspective to stem corruption at various levels.

Addressing the senior executives of Indian Petrochemical Corporation Limited (IPCL) at its corporate office here, Mr Mathur said any system could be made more effective through greater accountability, transparency and role clarity.

``One needs to adopt clear methodologies to deal with various situations. Correct and just punishment goes a long way in sending the right message across,'' he said.

He stressed the importance of supervision and effective governance that is responsible and responsive to people's needs.

Mr Mathur felt that social acceptability of corrupt practices is a dangerous development. ``Stronger resistance is needed to make it clear to the corrupt that their ways are unacceptable through ruthless punishment and public disgrace,'' he added.
