New Delhi, Nov 19 : The Confederation of Indian Industry's fifth insurance summit which will be held between November 22 and 23 here, will focus on the emerging issues in the sector in the post-liberalisation era.The summit will be inaugurated by Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha.It will play host to over 300 participants from a variety of countries including USA, Australia, Canada, France, the Netherlands, UK, South Africa, Singapore, Switzerland and Japan, besides domestic insurance players.
A CII press release stated that the confederation has been a major campaigner for opening up of the insurance sector with initiatives having been taken in organising four international conferences between 1996-1999.
It said, with the objective of providing once again a platform for exchange of information and experiences, the CII is organising the fifth international conference in insurance.
This meet is being organised at a time when the new private sector entrants would be gearing up for their foray into the Indian insurance sector.With the regulatory framework for the insurance sector in place, the summit would provide an ideal opportunity to discuss the future course of action of insurance companies as well as the regulatory authority.
The summit will cover a wide cross-section of the insurance industry and would include representatives from the government, the Insurance Regulatory Authority, policy-makers, potential investors, project sponsors, insurance companies, industrialists, CEOs, finance directors, surveyors, financiers, legal experts, consultants, brokers, intermediaries, academicians, consumers, training institutes, and media among others. According to the CII, apart from the domestic companies, the summit would also provide insurance professionals an opportunity to interact with speakers representing global leaders in the industry, based in Australia, Canada, France, the Netherlands, US, UK, South Africa, Singapore and Switzerland.
