Mumbai, Nov 19: Airbus Industrie is looking at India in a big way to outsource components for its range of Airbus Aircraft.An eight member team left Delhi last night after a weeklong visit to various industrial units in the country, including Bangalore and Mumbai.
The main objective of the team, which comprised Airbus partners (British Aerospace, Germany's DaimlerChrysler Aerospatiale, Spanish Casa and French Aerospatiale Matra) was to evaluate the engineering capability and capacity here for outsourcing components for use at their Aircraft Assembly unit at Toulouse.
Kiran Rao, former Airbus India president and presently vice-president sales, said that the purpose of the team's visit was "to look at the new techonolgy available here and utilise them for our aircraft."
The visit was very positive and "we expect a reportwithin the next two to three weeks. We intend to act on it," he added.
The visit also comes at a time when Indian Airlines is carrying out a fleet renewal programme to replace their Boeing 737-200s and the Airbus A 300 aircraft. (PTI) Rao said "we had discussions also with HinudstanAeronautics Ltd for some other parts but declined to go into further details".
