Calcutta, Nov 13: The World Gold Council (WGC) has received "overwhelming response" from jewellery makers in the country for the upcoming 'Swarnanjali 2000' contest, one of the world's most coveted jewellery contest.The Council has received over 5,700 entries from across the country for the contest, which was instituted in 1996 and was being co-sponsored by AngloGold, the world's largest gold producer, according to a WGC statement.
Welcoming the good response from the Indian designers, regional director of WGC, India, Derrick Machado said "our objective is to make Swarnanjali a forum to express creativity in jewellery designing and thus nurturing existing talent."
The awards this year would be presented for the best designs in three categories of bridal, casual and men's jewellery. An award for the most talented entrant would also be given.
The results of the evaluation would be declared at the regional finals between November 30 and December 6, 2000 while the final result at the national level would be announced on December 10, the release said.
