Raj TV jumps into fray with Rs 1-crore gameshow

Padmaja Shastri
Chennai : Following the phenomenal success of Star Plus' Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), a whole lot of television channels have entered the field of game shows with big prize money: Sawal Dus Crore Ka on Zee TV and Koteeswaran on Sun TV top the list. Now Tamil channel, Raj TV is also planning to join the bandwagon with a big game show. According to Mr P Rajendran, managing director of Raj Television Network Ltd, the TV channel is planning to launch a game show in January next year, with-no prizes for guessing!-Rs 1 crore as prize money, he said. The Tamil channel is currently in the process of zeroing in on a celebrity, to host the show. "We have short-listed a few, but haven't yet finalised anyone", said Mr Rajendran. The game show might just help the Tamil channel to get much closer to the vacant number two position in the region. Sun TV being the undoubted leader among Tamil channels, Vijay TV and Raj are in the running for the second place with no significant difference in their average ratings.

While Vijay TV already has a game show called `Vijay Mahalakshadipathi' (incidentally launched much before the KBC euphoria set in) on air, the higher prize money on offer may still prove to be that big chance for Raj.
