Sectoral cap blocks DD's DTH plans

Nivedita Mookerji
New Delhi : The Prasar Bharati meeting with various members of the Indian Broadcasters' Federation (IBF) on DTH television services failed to yield any results on Monday. Even as the Prasar Bharati CEO, Mr RR Shah, went to Mumbai to hold negotiations with the major players of the industry such as Star, Zee and Sony, the issue of sectoral cap of 20 per cent for broadcasters proved to be a stumbling block.

After the meeting, Mr Shah told The Financial Express that until the government issues a clarification on what should be the total equity participation of the broadcasters and non-broadcasters in a DTH consortium, the IBF will not be able to progress on the DTH talk. Monday's meeting was significant because DD has just won a go-ahead for setting up a DTH platform.
