New Delhi, Nov 8: The Planning Commission has approved a core plan of Rs 480 crore for Meghalaya for the year 2000-01. The state's annual plan was finalised by chief minister EK Mawlong and Planning Commission deputy chairman KC Pant in a meeting on Tuesday.According to an official release, the Commission also endorsed the state's resolved to raise additional resources by improving tax revenue and reducing non-plan expenditure to achieve the budgeted plan of Rs 517 crore.
The chief minister said that the state was expecting to generate Rs 55 crore from new initiatives aimed at improving revenue collection. While complimenting the state for making efforts to increase tax and non-tax revenue, Mr Pant said that there was need to further restrict non-plan expenditure so that developmental work could be taken up on a large-scale.
