Utkal Chamber of Commerce & Industry seeks sops for EoUs in IPR 2000 of Orissa

Dilip Bisoi
Bhubaneswar, Nov 8: The Utkal Chamber of Commerce & Industry (UCCI) has suggested that concessions be granted to export-oriented units (EoUs) and mineral-based industries in the Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR) 2000 of Orissa, the draft copy of which is in circulation to elicit public opinion.

"In line with the Exim Policy of the Centre, the state government should declare all EoUs exporting 50 per cent of their products as public utility services," the UCCI recommended. It also suggested that the hospitality industry should be treated as an EoU because it earns foreign exchange.

According to UCCI president SK Tamotia, the chamber has also demanded that companies which propose to set up mineral-based industries in Orissa should be given priority in granting prospecting licenses (PL) and mining licenses (ML) within a three-month time-frame. They should also be allowed a 10 per cent rebate on the royalty payable to the government on the minerals raised, he added.

UCCI also suggested the setting up of an infrastructure development board (IDB) under the chairmanship of the Orissa chief minister. The board would be made responsible for the identification of key infrastructure projects, prioritising public investment in these projects, chalking out the modalities of external funding and reviewing the execution of the projects.
