WB announces poverty elimination project for MP

New Delhi, Nov 8: As a reward for the comprehensive reforms that the Madhya Pradesh (MP) government has undertaken, the World Bank has announced the Madhya Pradesh District Poverty Initiatives Project (MPDPIP) to bolster economic and social development opportunities in the state's poorest districts through $110.1 million of credit.The bank announced the project in New Delhi on Wednesday. "While several states have taken bold steps to address fiscal imbalances, support is needed to improve and strengthen funding for services critical to the poor - services like health and education," said a World Bank press release.The World Bank is supporting the efforts of states which have undertaken "comprehensive reforms through a new type of lending operation which empowers communities through grassroots capacity building."
