Panaji, Nov 8: Union Minister for petroleum and natural gas, Ram Naik on Wednesday said that the entire waiting list for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) connections in the country had been cleared and new bookings were now being released across the counter.Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Mr Naik said that the number of applicants for LPG connections in October last year had swelled to 1.10 crore. As against the target to clear the waitlisted cases by December 2000, the objective was achieved by September this year itself by which time 1.27 crore new connections were released, Mr Naik, who was in Panaji to inaugurate a seminar on exploration geophysics, said.
A separate dealer selection board has been set up for Goa. Earlier, Goa cases were referred to the dealer selection board in Maharashtra as the former did not have the facility in the state, he said. The governor of Goa, Mohammed Fazal and the chief minister, Manohar Parrikar, had made some suggestions to Mr Naik and one of them was one for an LNG terminal for the state.
Mr Naik said that he would study the state's suggestion. Mr Parrikar was present at the press conference.
