New Delhi, Nov 8: The long-pending integrated transport policy is likely to be finalised by the taskforce on infrastructure in its meeting on Thursday. A number of problem areas, in the draft integrated transport policy, has already been smoothed out by the committee, headed by Planning Commission member Montek Singh Ahluwalia, which had been appointed to look into the weaknesses of the draft.
The remaining issues, including port linkages and urban transport, will be discussed and sorted out in tomorrow's meet. After the finalisation of the policy, the taskforce will submit its report to the Prime Minister, who will then supervise its implementation by various ministries and departments concerned. The taskforce on infrastructure is headed by the Planning Commission deputy chairman KC Pant and its members include the ministers of surface transport, railways and shipping. The progress of the National Highway Development Project (NHDP) will also be reviewed at the taskforce's meeting. The paper prepared by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), on various financial options in addition to the annuity system, will be discussed.
