Make way! Yahoo!India is hungry for more

Lalitha Srinivasan
After creating an initial awareness for its Website, Yahoo!India is now charting out an aggressive marketing plan to woo advertising agencies, corporates and potential advertisers across the country.

For starters, Yahoo!India has launched a print campaign in Mumbai to highlight its key strengths in India. The tagline for the ad campaign created by Ogilvy Promotions goes: "Yahoo!India - India's largest online audience".

But the million dollar question is: Where is the need for an ad campaign as Yahoo!India is already doing well with a registered base of six million members? Says Yahoo!India head (sales) Mr Pradipto Basu: "There is always a need for sustaining the current levels of advertising business and ensuring future business. As part of our marketing strategy, we have launched this ad which is targeted at ad agencies and corporates who are the potential advertisers."

According to Mr Basu, the main objective of the print ad is to capture a bigger share of the online advertising business in India. "We want to re-emphasise the fact that Yahoo!India is the only Indian site which offers various levels of targeting the advertisers. Also, to reinforce that the number of Indian audiences from India on Yahoo! are far higher than anyone else, and this is not only audited but also certified by Ernst & Young," adds Mr Basu.

In addition to print advertising, the company has also lined up a host of educative seminars aimed at investment banking community in India. "As part of our education programmes, we want to educate various industry segments in India about Yahoo!India as it is also an educative tool," informs Mr Basu.

To woo registered users, the company plans to host many ground-level promotions and events across the country. "We will be hosting promotions and events at colleges across the nation very soon," informs Mr Basu.

As part of its promotion strategy, the company has recently kicked off "Buzz-marketing" techniques to promote Yahoo!India across the nation. For this initiative, the company has recently joined hands with PepsiCo and MTV.

On November 16 this year, the company plans to host an educative seminar "Yahoo NetRoadshow" in Mumbai. The company has joined hands with BrandbandSolutions.
