FCI to review procurement plan

Our Economic Bureau
New Delhi, Oct 30: The Food Corporation of India (FCI) and other procuring agencies should procure fair and average quality grains from farmers all over the country, said the minister for rural development M Venkaiah Naidu.

Speaking to newspersons in the capital on Monday, Mr Naidu said that if a common standard of procurement was adopted all over the country, the farmers in all states would be assured of a level-playing field and will be prevented from going for distress sales of their produce. He said that FCI, state agencies and the co-operatives should construct adequate storage facilities in all states so that the grains can be procured locally.
