Mumbai, Oct 19: Indian Rayon and Industries has posted a robust 61 per cent growth in net profit to Rs 16.40 crore in the second quarter ended September 2000, as compared to Rs 10.21 crore in the corresponding period last year.Turnover rose 40 per cent to Rs 339.28 crore from Rs 280.04 crore last year. The topline growth is fuelled by the growth in its textiles business which is the top performer. Madura Garments, the company's latest acquisition, clocked a turnover of Rs 92.2 crore during the period, a growth of 28 per cent over Rs 71.9 crore in the immediately preceding quarter ended June 2000. The textiles division of the company achieved a turnover of Rs 87.4 crore against Rs 84.7 crore in the second quarter.
The company said it has paid a royalty of Rs 2.29 crore during the period for the technology paid to Aditya Vikram Global Trading House, a wholly- owned subsidiary of the company.
In the viscose filament yarn, the production at 3941 MT was higher by 25 per cent. The rayon division exports stood at Rs 4.3 crore registering a rise of 23 per cent over Rs 3.5 crore last year.
The company said realisation was down 6 per cent at Rs 145 per kg. The improvement in the prices of Chlorine and FCL helped in improving the division's margins from 18 per cent to 26 per cent. Net profit margins improved from 3.6 per cent to 4.1 per cent.
The carbon black division registered a turnover of Rs 63.6 crore, an increase of 22 per cent as against Rs 52.2 crore in the previous quarter. Indian Rayon and Industries director VT Moorthy said that a continued thrust on exports has enabled the carbon black division boost its exports to Rs 8.2 crore as compared to Rs 3.9 crore achieved last year, especially from its Chennai plant.
Production for the division stood at 24307 MT, up by 3 per cent over that in the previous year. Realisation for the carbon black division soared 27 per cent to Rs 25923 per MT.
The insulator division has recorded a turnover of Rs 44.6 crore, as against 30.5 crore in the same quarter last year.
