Pant for consensus on tariff revision
Our Corporate Bureau
Mumbai, Oct 18: The Planning Commission's deputy chairman KC Pant on Wednesday stressed on the need for building a national consensus on tariff revision, especially for agricultural power tariff in order to smoothen the implementation process for power sector reforms. Mr Pant said that the securitisation of the state electricity boards' dues would help attract private investment in the power sector "but may not be sufficient to catalyse private sector investment without a national consensus on tariff revision."In his inaugural address at a conference in Mumbai - 'Powertech India 2000', Mr Pant said that although agriculture accounts for about 30 per cent of the total power consumption in the country, many states have not imposed reasonable rates of tariffs.
