Seraphic System -- The fifth ISP to begin operations in Orissa

Bhubaneswar: Seraphic System Private Ltd (SSPL), a software company floated by a US-based non-resident Oriya, has become the fifth Internet service provider (ISP) in the state with the launching of its service in Bhubaneswar on Saturday. The other ISPs that are operating in Orissa are Sataym Online, Skycable and AOIL besides the Department of Telecom (DoT) have entered the Orissa market.

``We will provide the service through dial up telephone lines with a dedicated line to VSNL server located at Calcutta,'' said Mr RR Sahoo, promoter of the company. He said that the service would be expanded to entire Orissa in phased manner. It will initially have a bandwidth of 128 kbps which subsequently would be upgraded to 512 kbps, he added.

About the Internet tariff, Mr Sahoo said that prices have been fine tuned taking into consideration the needs of the netizens.

Seraphic System has introduced a slab of 15 hours to 30 hours with a charge of Rs 12.50 per hour under the head `limited offer'. And under `unlimited offer', it has offered a rate of Rs 15 per day for connection above 15 days. The commercial package comes at Rs 7399 for unlimited time for six months. For three months the rate is Rs 3794 and Rs 1299 per month. The corporate account package offers unlimited use for one year at Rs 11999 with 15 free e-mail ID or Rs 7499 with 10 free e-mail ID.

Mr Sahoo said that Seraphic System would market its products in US through its overseas associate Seraphic Systems Group Inc of California's Bakersfield in the US. Though the core technical competency of Seraphic System is rooted in software development, the company would also take up projects in areas like application design and development (onsite and offsite), offshore software development, consulting services by experienced IT consultants, Web hosting, Web designing, and Web development, e-commerce, software re-engineering. According to the company's chief administator, Mr SK Senapati, the promoters would invest initially about Rs 50-lakh in the project. A decision regarding a major investment in the project would be taken at a later stage as plans are there to set up a software development centre at Infocity, the software park at Bhubaneswar, he added.
