Ahmedabad: In a market already overcrowded with players, yet another one, Ahmedabad-based Trident Netcom Solutions Private Limited, has entered the Indian ISP business. The company has commenced operations with dial-up access in Ahmedabad, Chennai and Delhi and is currently offering services like Internet on cable, Internet on mobile and Internet on wireless connections.Speaking to The Financial Express, the director of the company, Mr Vishnu Devnani said Trident had up its sleeve, plans to open centres in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai and Chandigarh, within the next six months. Not only that, the company plans to open 24 main centres in all the telecom circles of the country within the next two years. An NRI based in the US, Mr Devnani said Trident had a technical tie-up with a leading Internet company of the Philippines, Philworld. Trident has already invested Rs 2 crore each for the three centres it has already linked up "and has the capability to invest more to connect every city."
Though the company has presently acquired the necessary bandwidth from VSNL, it has plans to acquire the necessary licenses for its gateway and would then be in a position to offer ASP services to big private companies. Interestingly, Trident's services will be slightly more expensive than those offered by existing players.
"We believe in offering quality services and value addition and will be offering our customers a much faster download speed than that offered by others," Mr Devnani said, adding that even at peak hours and 100 per cent capacity utilisation, the company aimed to guarantee a speed of at least 2kbps. However, when asked how he planned to make a dent in the market with higher charges, Mr Devnani said Trident had chalked out various promotional campaigns which would offer as much as 50 per cent discount on normal tariffs from time to time.
He refused to divulge more on the promotional campaigns. Down the road, Trident also has plans of roping in venture capitalists into the Indian project, but for the time being, that is at least the first two years, the company will test the Indian waters alone.
