Mumbai, Oct 16: Prominent industrialist and philanthropist Mr Radhakrishnaji Ruia died of acute cardiac arrest here on Monday morning. He was 84.Mr Ruia was the chairman of the Millowners Association from 1963 to 1969. He was also the chairman of the Indian Cotton Mills Federation (ICMF) during 1969 and 1970. Mr Ruia was the dominant force in textile research and was the chairman and deputy chairman of the Bombay Textile Research Association from 1973 to 1987. In the field of cotton research, he was chairman of the federation's standing committee for cotton development right from 1964 to 1988 and was the chairman of the ICMF cotton development and research association for over 20 years.
According to industry sources, the role of Mr Ruia in the development of Bombay's textile industry and in cotton research is unprecedented.
Throughout his business career, he was regarded as a great administrator, running three textile mills, sugar mills and various other factories.
