Our Markets Bureau
Mumbai, Oct 16: Despite doubling in overall turnover of the stock exchanges, the percentage of traded stocks on monthly basis was in the range of 35.36 per cent and 42.66 per cent respectively during 1999-00. However, there was a trend towards growth in this percentage as was witnessed during last year, where the figure went up from 36.83 per cent in April 1999 to 41.34 per cent in March 2000, according to the 1999-00 annual report of Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi).

It was observed that on an average, over 2700 scrips (37 per cent) were being traded during the year on Bombay Stock Exchange.

SEBI said that a detailed analysis has shown that trading was only nominal in quite a number of scrips as represented by 56 per cent of the 8,020 listed scrips were traded one to 10 trading sessions during the year or 65 per cent were traded for one to 40 days.
