Lexsite.com, the legal and the commercial information services provider, has tied up with the Internet Service Provider RoltaNet, for providing content. Lexsite also plans on signing with other ISPs like Hathway and Satyam and is currently in talks with these ISPs for the same, according to Vivek Hurry, COO, Lexsite.com.
Lexsite has also tied up with Broadcast India to offer broadband content. and is currently putting the technology in place according to Hurry. The broadband content said Hurry, is likely to feature parliamentary debates that impact law, the finance ministers budget speech and legal analysis.
Explaining the rationale behind the tie-up with ISPs, Mr Hurry said "We are not a traffic site. Eyeballs per se do not matter, what matters for us is that we make ourselves accessible to the right person. Moreover there are potential users who are still waiting to get connected. It thus made sense to tie up with an ISP, which is in the business of pushing people on to the Internet. This would enable the target market to come to our site. This gives us the increased visibility as well as the exposure".
Lexsite's deal with RoltaNet is a revenue sharing one whereby revenue generated from all the subscribers that the site gets from Rolta will be shared between the two of them. Lexsite currently charges its users an annual subscription fee for the legal information provided by it. The site is also working on the `pay-per document' model whereby users will be provided an abstract of the documents available and can pay and download the ones they need. To facilitate the payment procedure, Lexsite is in talks with payment gateways.
Mr Hurry said that the pay-per document model will come into effect in the next 60 days. Mr Hurry also added that the site is poised for a re-launch and the server is being shifted to India where it will be hosted by Satyam.
Lexsite is also planning a new section - `doing business in India' which will serve as a one stop shop for the legal needs of companies setting up shop in India. They will also be launching channels on labour laws, family law, property and mutual funds shortly.
