Eshop@philipsindia.com offers voice-activated Website

Mona Mehta
Consumer durables major Philips India, which launched eshop@philipsindia.com in April 2000, has made a critical change in the Website to make it a voice-activated one with effect from October this year.

According to Philips India, eshop@philipsindia.com is the first to offer a voice-activated Website. The features include seamless integration, powerful scalability and fast delivery of content.

Philips India is already selling CTVs and audio systems through philipsindia.com.

Says Philips India senior vice-president (consumer electronics) Mr Rajeev Karwal: "We will target only the corporates for business-to-business and business-to-consumers initiatives through this Website. For this we have tied-up with HDFC Bank. We plan to garner revenues of Rs 4 crore in the first year of operations."

Eshop@philipsindia.com has an in-built customer relationship management (CRM) model which gives customers the opportunity to use a secure form of auto payment gateway. The site is using automatic authentication of payment transaction system for credit cards to prevent any manual interface leading to safe and instant response, says Mr Karwal.

Another feature provides risk-free transaction by using 128 bit encryption. As part of its CRM activity, each customer can design products according to individual requirements. It also has a multi-payment option that enables the user the advantage of paying via a Master or Visa card. Online research for all Philips products will be conducted on the site, says Mr Karwal.

The site will also act as an exchange junction between customer-to-customer, in addition to acting as a platform for auctions of dated products and holding regular contests and quizzes.
