IT dept searches at Star, Zee, Sony offices
The Income Tax department is understood to have conducted searches at the premises of leading television channels - Star TV, Sony Entertainment Television and Zee TV - in Mumbai on Friday. A special judge on Monday sentenced former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha to three and two years rigorous imprisonment, in two Tansi land deal cases respectively. Judge P Anbazhagan also sentenced Jayalalitha's associate Sasikala, former state rural industries minister Mohammed Asif and three officials to three years in prison each and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each.
Hindujas chargesheeted in Bofors deal
Three Hinduja brothers, Srichand, Gopichand and Prakashchand were on Monday chargesheeted by the CBI, which accused them of receiving 81 million Swedish Croners from the Swedish gun manufacturer. London-based Hinduja Group Chairman Srichand, his younger brother and group president Gopichand and Geneva-based Prakashchand were named as accused in the 11-page supplementary chargesheet.
MTNL may get NLD licence
The government has said it is considering granting licence to MTNL for operating domestic long-distance sector. DoT will also recommend to the finance ministry the request of MTNL for grant of tax concessions.

Aditya Vij to head GMI
Mr Aditya Vij has taken over as the president and managing director of General Motors India. Mr Vij, who is the first Indian to head the operations of GM India,succeeds Mr Richard C Swando. HC seeks reply on immunity to 7 PSUs
The Delhi High Court on Monday sought reply from the Centre on grant of immunity to seven Public Sector Corporations under the Voluntary Disclosure of Income Scheme following a petition challenging the Income Tax Department order on the ground that no government undertaking can escape action from the tax liabilities.
