Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: Mahanadi Coalfield Ltd, a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd, has clocked a significant growth in all-round performance during the first half of the current fiscal. The company raised 21.343 million tonnes (mt) of coal during April-September 2000, registering a growth of 4.77 per cent over 20.37 mt produced in the corresponding period of the previous year. Coal production during the first- half exceeded the target of 19.713 mt.A notable feature is that coal production from both opencast and underground mines has shown a remarkable growth, a company spokesperson said. During April-September, underground mines produced 0.827 mt of coal, registering a growth of 2.2 per cent over the previous year's 0.809 mt. Production from underground mines was 112.43 per cent of the target of 0.736 mt for the period. Opencast mines produced 20.515 mt of coal, registering a growth of 4.88 per cent over the previous year's production of 19.56 mt. Production from opencast mines is 108.11 per cent of the target of 18.977 mt for the period.
MCL removed 21.406 million cu metres of overburden during April-September 2000 as against the target of 20.501 million cu metres for the period. The company removed 21.391 million cu metres during the same period in 1999-2000. The most significant achievement during April-September was the growth of 1.943 mt of offtake in one year. The offtake was 23.239 mt during the first-half as against the previous year's 21.296 mt. The company achieved 113.09 per cent of the target of 20.55 mt for the period. The spokesman said that MCL achieved 112.8 per cent of the wagon loading target by clocking 3630 FW/D as against the target of 3218 FW/D . The growth is 12.11 per cent over the wagon loading of 3238 FW/D during the same period last year.
