BconnectB.com picks up stake in Autopartsasia.com

Our eFE Bureau
BconnectB.com Worldwide Limited (an Aptech subsidiary) has picked up an undisclosed minority stake in Autopartsasia. com, a portal for the autoparts after market. Mr Ganesh Natarajan, president, BconnectB, said the equity stake is in return for technical services provided by the company to Autopartsasia. Also, BconnectB would receive payments for its services in cash and equity form.

BconnectB has picked up equity stakes in the B2B ventures it has associated itself with such as the high profile cine portal launched by Devgan Entertainment and Software Limited (whose promoters include cine stars Mr Ajay Devgan and Ms Kajol) and a portal for the electrical industry. Mr Natarajan declined to comment on the precise quantum of BconnectB holdings in these ventures but said it would range between 10 and 25 per cent.

BconnectB targets a revenue of Rs 60 crore in two years from application service provider business. Autopartsasia was launched during May this year.

The portal has generated leads worth $10 million so far and has over 400 registered users, said Mr K Vaidyanathan, director and chief executive officer of the company. Its focus market includes India, Taiwan and China.

An investment of about Rs 1 crore has been made in the venture. The revenue streams for the portals include charges from listing fee, buyers enquiries, transaction, advertisement. The portal has also entered into a revenue sharing arrangement with its service providers in areas such as logistics, warehousing etc.

The venture is also in talks with another portal which operates in original equipment supplier niche. It would make sense for them to tie up with a player in the replacement market, said the company officials.

Valued-added services to be provided shortly are Apex and Action. Apex is a autoparts private exchange that allows manufacturers to connect to depots, dealers, distributors etc. Action is a autoparts cataloging and trading initiative online. The software for these would be available from BconnectB through the application service provider mode and the intellectual property rights of the software would be co-owned by the companies.

The autoparts after market portal targets a turnover of Rs 45 crore by the third year of operations and estimates transaction of Rs 1,120 crore during the same period.
