Mumbai, Oct 5: The Mumbai-based utility BSES, in a bid to tide over the situation arising out of Maharashtra government's threat to revoke its licence, on Thursday offered to pay an annual instalment of Rs 27 crore towards standby charges to Tata Electric Companies (TEC).Top BSES sources told The Financial Express that a letter is being was dispatched to the state government in this regard on Thursday following the receipt of revocation notice on Wednesday. Sources said that BSES has demanded that the state government cancel the order dated March 22 on standby charges between Maharashtra State Electricity Board, BSES and TEC.
BSES stuck to its stand and said that it had been paying Rs 151 crore annually towards standby charges, which is a component of tariff.
BSES said that it was in favour of approaching Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) on the issue of payment of standby charges to TEC. It has added that MERC in its tariff order dated May 5 has finalised the TEC's standby charges to MSEB. TEC has to pay Rs 600 KVA to MSEB on account of standby charges as per the MERC order.
BSES sources further said that MERC's intervention was welcome as the burden would have to be passed on the consumers. It wanted that MERC to look into the aspect of fuel adjustment charges imposed by TEC. BSES is of the view that it has been done arbitrarily.
