Polyester yarn down

Mumbai, Oct 5: Yarn Extremely poor demand has caused led to a drop in the market price of polyester yarn, notwithstanding the recent hike in the price by the spinners. Very sluggish activity in fabrics has also badly hit the offtake of yarn. Bhiwandi powerloom capacity remained underutilised by around 60 per cent. This has resulted in the price of polyester yarn dropping by Rs 4 to 5 a kg. Grey first quality of medium sized units 80 dn roto slid down to Rs 102-104, micro roto to Rs 112-115 and weft to Rs 103-104. In the case of 150 dn, weft was on offer at Rs 86-87, single roto at Rs 90-91, micro roto at Rs 102-104 and micro weft at Rs 100-102.

Trade sources anticipated a small corrective rally from these levels. But the overall sentiment remained weak. Grains A bearish trend in pulses marked trading on the grains market. Poor demand coupled with increased offerings led to a dent in several items. Kabuli gram price softened up by Rs 100 to 150. A-2 Mexico were on offer at Rs 4,700 and Canada at Rs 4,300. B-2 quoted at Rs 3,800-4,000, C-2 at Rs 3,000-3,200 and natural at Rs 3,500-3,600.

Supplies continued mainly from Iran and Mexico. Urad Myanmar lost Rs 50 at Rs 2,250-2,300 following competition from domestic crop goods, which is selling at Rs 1,900-2,200 ex-producing centres. Gram price was down by Rs 25 on improved supply. Australian was on offer at Rs 1,575, Canada medium at Rs 1,275-1,300 and superior at Rs 1,500. Green peas Rumba/ Heart was down by Rs 50. Average was on offer at Rs 1,200-1,250 and superior at Rs 1,350. Canada eased by Rs 10 at Rs 951-961. White peas Canada was on offer at Rs 871-881.

Wheat and rice ruled quite steady. Cotton A steady to slightly better trend prevailed on the cotton market. Some of the prices of the Punjab zone cotton was up by Rs 5 to 10 a maund while others held steady. J-34 saw ginned good average, ready Punjab ruled at Rs 1,780-1,815, Haryana at Rs 1,715-1,765 and Rajasthan at Rs 1,715-1,730 spot. Bengal Deshi whole of October traded at Rs 1,020-1,050. Arrivals comprised 6,000 bales of J-34 and 4,000 bales of Bengal Deshi. Other cottons held steady. Sugar Bearish trend was in evidence on the sugar market following slack demand coupled with the rumour that the November free sale quota operation will be preponed to the 15th of this month. Ex-godown prices eased by Rs 5 to 7 with M-30 at Rs 1,530-1,565 and S-30 at Rs 1,510-1,535. Ex-octroi checkpost, M-30 were slightly subdued at Rs 1,512-1,530, but S-30 lost Rs 10 at Rs 1,485-1,495. Ex-mill, M-30 were down by Rs 10 at Rs 1,450-1,460 and S-30 by Rs 15 at Rs 1,415-1,435 in Kolhapur line.

Bullion
Gold prices suffered fresh losses while silver closed on a mixed note on the bullion market in Mumbai on Thursday. Standard gold fell by Rs 10 at Rs 4,525 per 10 gm. So was gold 22 carat at Rs 4,185. Prices of gold biscuit softened by Rs 100 at Rs 52,900 per piece. Seasonal buyers stayed away in the falling market while brisk local supplies triggered fresh selling in the global market. Gold was steady at $271.50 per ounce in the overseas market.

Silver .999 closed Rs 10 lower at Rs 8,095 per kg on weak overseas advices coupled with sluggish seasonal demand. Silver .916, however, edged up by Rs 5 at Rs 7,980 per kg on eased supplies. In the global market, the white metal slide by a cent at $4.88 per ounce.

Oil, oilseeds
Groundnut oil maintained at the improved level on the oil, oilseeds market on Thursday. Castorseed and its oil ruled quiet in ready delivery. But, prices suffered fresh losses in the forward market. Groundnut oil was steady at Rs 378 per 10 kg on stray festival support. In Rajkot, prices were placed at Rs 665/670 per 15 kgs. Imported palm oil recovered by a rupee at Rs 196 per 10 kg. In the global market, it recovered by $2.50 at $255 per tonne in ready delivery. Castor oil held at Rs 305/317 per 10 kg, castorseed was also ready at Rs 1,375 per quintal.

In futures, castorseed December delivery reacted by Rs 2 at Rs 1,341 per quintal. Castorseed October delivery held at Rs 321 per 10 kgs. Palmolien November delivery recovered to Rs 198 (Rs 195.50) per 10 kgs.
