Sugar flares up on buying support

Mumbai, Oct 3: A steady trend prevailed on the grains market. Activity was better. Wheat MP 147 ruled at Rs 775-900 and Sarabati in the range of Rs 900-1,300 a quintal. Rice Gujarat-17 was on offer at Rs 1,300-1,500 and Gujarat Masoori at Rs 1,100-1,500. Among the pulses, moong Myanmar quoted at Rs 1,650-1,850 and Thailand at Rs 1,500. Rajma chitra deshi was on offer at Rs 1,700-1,750. Chinese new at Rs 1,500-1,550 and old at Rs 1,200-1,300. Red rajma Myanmar was placed at Rs 1,150-1,300.

Cotton
Punjab cotton ruled mixed on the cotton market. Punjab and Haryana prices ruled better by Rs 10 to 15 while Rajasthan registered a fall of Rs 10 to 20. J-34 saw ginned good average ready ruled in the range of Rs 1,700-1,780 and whole of October at Rs 1,670-1,770. Cart selected whole of October ruled at Rs 1,750-1,770 a spot.

Bengal deshi whole of October was placed at Rs 1,005-1,040. J-34 saw ginned good average Rajasthan whole of November ruled at Rs 1,655-1,670. Arrivals comprised 4,000 bales of J-34 and 3,500 bales of Bengal deshi. Other cottons ruled quite steady.

Sugar
Sugar price flared up following brisk buying support. Active upcountry buying support coupled with stockists' accelerated purchases in anticipation of festival demand, boosted the price by Rs 25 a quintal. M-30 went up to Rs 1,520-1,530 and S-30 to Rs 1,500-1,510 ex-octroi checkpost. In mill tenders, M-30 were indicated at Rs 1,460-1,470 and S-30 at Rs 1,440-1,450 in the Kolhapur line.
