British handheld computer group Psion Plc has released its new WAP-enabled Revo Plus, an organiser which provides wireless Internet access. WAP or Wireless Application Protocol is a standard to allow cellular phones, pagers and other wireless handheld devices such as personal digital assistants to access e-mail and text-based Web pages. To access the Internet, users need to link Revo Plus to a compatible data-enabled mobile phone (via infrared) or use a Psion 56K Travel Modem.Compatible data-enabled mobile phones include the Motorola Timeport L7089, Ericsson T18 (with D127) or Ericsson T28(with D128), Siemens S25 and Nokia 8810. Meanwhile, the Psion 6K Travel Modem is a pocket-sized device that plugs into a standard telephone "Currently, the WAP experience on a mobile phone is hampered by the limited screen size as well as the difficulty to navigate and enter data," said Psion Asia Pacific regional director Charles Cousins in a statement.
"Revo Plus delivers information on a wide, clear screen, while the keyboard makes navigation and data input effortless, eliminating many of the constraints of the WAP experience on a mobile phone," Cousins added. Psion also claimed The Revo Plus, which retails for S$699, includes the PC connectivity software and docking station.
