Banking on IT -- Deutsche Software to market services abroad

New Delhi: In a strategic shift, Bangalore-based Deutsche Software, which is a fully-owned subsidiary of Deutsche Bank Group, is charting a more aggressive growth path by diversifying beyond in-house software development. It will now seek business internally within the Deutsche Bank network, as well as externally, in four key markets Singapore, Germany, US and UK. In the next one year, it will open relationship offices in Singapore, Frankfurt, London and New York. Leveraging on its experience, built over the last eight years, the software development centre in Bangalore is launching an action plan to increase turnover from an expected Rs 54.4 crore in January-December 2000, to over Rs 100 crore in January-December 2001.Says Ashutosh Gupta, chief executive officer, Deutsche Software, who took charge in May 2000: ``Our goal is to grow by 100 per cent in the next one year and to leverage on Deutsche Bank's second-tier of relationships.'' To prepare for the growth, the company is investing Rs 25-30 crore to increase capacity in terms of infrastructure as well as manpower. Deutsche Software will shortly be moving from its current 35,000 square feet facility to a new 75,000 square feet facility, even as its strength is ramped up from the current 350 to 750. In terms of key appointments, it has recently brought on board Greg D'Souza as head of human resources from IBM; Anil Rai, as head of external business development, from Lucent Technologies; and Rajesh Ghonasgi, as head of finance, from Wipro. In addition, Walter Schultz, will be head of Deutsche Bank relationships, which will entail marketing the Indian subsidiaries operations across Asia and Europe. The Europe marketing team will be structured on four focus areas: investment banking, commercial banking, private banking and business consulting. Deutsche Software's current areas of specialisation are banking and financial services like trade finance, electronic banking, core banking; groupware; software maintenance and migration; RDBMS and data warehousing; Web content development; credit risk evaluation systems, e-banking. In terms of the IT services that it will market internally and externally, Deutsche Software intends to offer turnkey development, migration, maintenance and enhancements, detailed business analysis, technical documentation, high-end IT consulting, and system administration and technical support.
