Electricmelato launch ASP services

Kavita Nair
Mumbai: Electricmela.com, the B2B portal for the electric industry is all set to launch its ASP services for the sector. The application's first module which focuses on the distributor-end has just been launched. This will be followed by SCM and CRM modules eventually according to Mr Srinath Sridharan, manager, brand management and business development. Mr Sridharan also indicated that the company plans to make a public offering within the next two years but did not disclose whether this would be a domestic or overseas listing. The site has invested about Rs 10 crore so far in its online B2B venture according to Sridharan.

Electricmela is promoted by the BSE-listed Emco Limited which is a leading manufacturer of transformers. The Distribution Channel Manager which is the site's branded application which focuses on connecting the dealers with manufacturers, will map demand online. The products purchased by the customer can be logged into by the dealer, and transmitted in real time to the manufacturer.

This will help cut inventory levels that are high as 4 months according to Mr Sridharan. "Traditionally what happens is the customer goes to the dealer, he orders, and the order is booked. The regional office people go to the local branch office, they collect it-and ultimately the manufacturer comes to know of the order only after 20-30 days. This application would cut the time lag," says Mr Sridharan. Needless to say, the new system would also cut inventory levels at all stages with production being streamlined to match demand. "The inventory costs alone work out to more that 10 per cent of the total turnover. Through this ASP platform you can reduce your communication and inventory cost by over 50 per cent," explains Mr Sridharan.
