Ashok Leyland sales dip by 27% in August

Chennai, Sept 15: Ashok Leyland Ltd's (ALL) domestic sales continued its downtrend with the company posting a 27 per cent decline in sales for the month of August. Ashok Leyland sold 2,002 units in August 2000, against 2,734 units in the corresponding month of the previous year.

On an year to date basis, the total sales (including exports) works out to 10,883 compared to 12,582 in April-August 1999, a decline of 14 per cent in volume terms. Previous period figures include army sales to the tune of 1,693 units. Current period figures do not reflect army sales as they are done in completely knocked down form, according to company officials.

During August 2000, the company has produced 883 MDV passengers, domestically sold 775 of them and exported 15 units. In the MDV goods category, production was 1,491 units, local sales 1,197 and exports 108 units. About 94 light commercial vehicles (LCVs) units were produced and 30 were sold locally.
