Kochi, Sept 15: Hindustan Motors Ltd (HM), the CK Birla flagship company, has scripted a marketing plan for its premium model Lancer. The company, in a bid to pep up its market share in the mid-size premium segment, is coming out with a novel sales pitch to bring the customer closer to the production process. Code named MYOL (Make Your Own Lancer) the scheme will allow the customer to chose a slew of features, including the colour of the vehicle, over the net. Also in the agenda of the company is the repositioning of the petrol versions. The company is eyeing a total sales of 10,000 cars by the close of the current fiscal. HM will also import and market the world's premium range automobile - Pajero - in the near future, a top company official told The Financial Express here on Thursday.
Hindustan Motors regional manager (sales) G Balagopal said that the company is banking on the new sales pitch in a big way and it is expected to take the car market by storm. He said, HM has already introduced the concept in an informal way in several places and the market reaction is overwhelming.
The plan also allows a customer to choose the type of the steering wheel, interiors etc through a computer installed in the dealers shop. The company also plans to introduce the concept over the net, Mr Balagopal added.
"Make Your Own Lancer is a part of our ongoing drive to address the customer need more directly. In a sense, MYOL allows a fully customised car for the customer. This is the first time in the country, an established auto maker offering such a facility", he said.
Though, the competition from other player is getting hotter, the company plans to take on the rival through adding more value to its products besides taking care of the customer before and after the sales, he said.
HM is planning to sell over 10,000 cars this fiscal. The company has already sold well over 3,200 units since April this year. "We are confident of achieving the target by the turn of this fiscal," he said.
Mr Balagopal said as part of its new marketing plan, the company will push the petrol version in a big way across the country, especially in the diesel favouring markets in the south. HM will be organising customers meet and door to door demos to drive the sales of the petrol version in top gear, he added.Mr Balagopal said the company has plans to launch a new model early next year.
