Mumbai-based Mobile Telecommunications Limited, has invited satellite television broadcasters worldwide to bid for the first ever live and interactive TV and Internet game show. Says Mr Pankaj Shah, CEO, Dotcom, Media & Entertainment, Mobile Telecommunications, that within two weeks the company will be in a position to reveal the details of the game show.Says Mr Shah: ``We're producing the world's first live and interactive TV and Internet game show.'' This will be the first show where the Internet and television will both be used as media to deliver entertainment.
The company is now waiting for the patent for the concept of the show. The patent is pending with the US Patents and Trademark Authority under Intellectual Property Rights. Says Mr Shah: ``Once the patent is in place, we will be able to reveal the concept in its totality.'' The only thing that the company is willing to reveal now is that the game show is going to be a live event with interaction from viewers through the Internet.
Mobile Telecommunications has a fully-owned subsidiary called M-Sat Technology in the US, through which it is applying for the US patent. Mobile is talking to broadcasters in the US, UK, Australia and India. Says Mr Shah: ``We're in the final stage of negotiation with a broadcasting company which has presence in the US and Canada to broadcast the show.'' The company is also in the process of identifying broadcasters from other regions: the shows will be different for each region.
On the lines of Kaun Banega Crorepati, Mobile Telecommunications is also looking at celebrities to host the show. Says Mr Shah: ``We have already identified the celebrity for our USA and Canada game show.''
Although the financial deal with broadcasters will vary from one region to another, depending on the number of potential television viewers and penetration of Internet users in each region, Mr Shah says that his company is not looking at a one-time fee. Rather, the company is looking at a revenue-sharing formula with the broadcasters, whereby Mobile will get a 40 per cent of the total revenues earned from the show.
In India, at least two broadcasters have shown interest in the TV-Internet game show. But wherever the show is beamed, Mobile will manage the content side, while marketing will be handled by the concerned broadcasters.
The show is likely to attract ad revenues as it's going to be a cross-media promotion. It's an ideal blend, says Mr Shah, where the Internet will promote TV and vice versa, with ad revenues going to both.
Mobile Telecommunications is a five-year-old company, with its main products being insurance management system, integrated business management system, hotel management system and hospital management system. The company is in technological joint venture with IBM to develop a product. It has offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Pune.
