Hedge risks via derivatives, says BSE treasurer

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
Kochi, Sept 15: Investors now have the option to hedge their risk by trading in index based derivatives instead of trading in any particular stock, according to Mumbai Stock Exchange treasurer Himanshu N Kaji.

Inaugurating Vertex Securities Limited's `Depository services and Index Trading' here on Thursday night, Kaji said "we trade in index because it is the barometer of the economic health of any country. It reflects the positive and negative aspects of the economy of any country in one figure. "Index is not very easy to manipulate as share prices could be. It also acts as a hedging tool because it is a composition of many stocks," he added.

Ranjan Verghese, Chairman and Managing Director, Vertex Securities Limited, said they planned to open branches at all district headquarters of Kerala and also to enhance the franchisee network. Verghese said they had plans to introduce a novel system of `sell-n-cash' scheme in which those who need money urgently could sell demat shares and collect cash quickly.

This scheme would help and provide the client with instant liquidity, he said and added that the company had earmarked around Rs 150 lakh under the scheme.Verghese said the company facilitates stock trading on NSE, BSE, ICSEand Cochin Stock Exchange.
