Multi-level marketing company goes online

Mona Mehta
Cymbionic Marketing Pvt Ltd, the multi-level marketing company which is entering into alliances with Philips and Shoppers' Stop, plans to sell online within six months.

Says Cymbionic managing director Mr Arfeen Khan: "The selling of products online will be through our Website www.cymbionic.com and will be serviced by our distributors."

As part of this plan, the company plans to increase the number of distributors from 6,000 to 10,000 all over the country, over the next six months. He added that each distributor will have his own individual Website within www.cymbionic.com to cater to local consumer demand online.

According to Mr Khan: "In order to eliminate advertising as well as marketing costs, we currently have 6,000 distributors marketing products for the company. By doing this the distribution costs will be lower since the volumes are always on a higher side and the customers too will have to pay less for products being marketed by Cymbionic." Incorporated in November 1998, the company has established its base in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Bangalore, Goa and clocked a turnover of Rs 20 crore in 1999-2000.

The company is entering into a strategic alliance with Philips, Zenith, Shoppers' Stop, EsselWorld and Royal Goan Beach Club (RGBC) under a multi-level marketing arrangement. RGBC resorts are spread across Goa, Thailand and Australia.

Cymbionic plans to promote Cymvacations (luxury resort accommodations with competitive pricing) through the above chains.

Mr Khan said the membership costs would be Rs 45,000 a year."Cymbionic will market a range of consumer electronics and home appliances from Philips, the entire product spread for Shoppers' Stop and personal computers for Zenith. It will also promote RGBC's resorts in India and abroad through innovative agreements with the above agreements in addition to Esselworld, Water Kingdom and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)," he added.
