Hughes Tele.com India Limited (HTIL) engaged in installing multiple fibre grids and basic telephony infrastructure across Mumbai, Pune and Goa is targeting a subscriber base of 3.9 lakh by 2004, according to the company's president and CEO Mr Prakash C Bajpai. Currently the company has over 27,000 lines spread over Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune. Briefing the media in Bangalore on Thursday, Mr Bajpai said the company's customers included reputed corporates and a large portion of small and medium segment.He said the company was aiming to become the leading provider of broadband services in the Maharashtra Telecom Circle, the highest revenue earning telecom circle in the country. The company was also awaiting an ISP license, Mr Bajpai said.
Hughes Tele.com was targeting to clock in revenues of Rs 185 crore during fiscal 2000-01 against Rs 65 crore in the previous year, he said. Mr Bajpai said the company would also get into the Internet telephony business soon.
``Internet telephony will be a very positive business for us,'' he said. Hughes Tele.com treasurer Mr Kishore Saletore said the total outlay of the project would be Rs 3,485 crore, Rs 1,553 crore and Rs 1,932 crore equity and debt respectively would be put in by Hughes Electronics Corporation, Ispat Industries, ALLTEL Corporation and Kellerton Venture Corporation. Mr Saletore said of the total amount, Hughes Tele.com had already spent around Rs 1,500 crore of which Rs 580 crore accounted for license fee.
