Oracle Software India has chalked out a multi-pronged strategy to beef up its business in the country. As part of the strategy, it will focus on three business areas. Though, the company will not increase its manpower for the time being, it will enhance its business partners. "We are not planning to increase manpower substantially in the country from the existing 450 people. However, the company will enhance its business in India by adding to the number of business partners," Oracle Software India country manager Shekhar Dasgupta told eFE. Mr Dasgupta said that the company wanted to consolidate in its business areas and there were no immediate plans to expand in the Indian marketplace with huge investments. This means, the company will not inject funds heavily to enhance the number of software development centres in India.
Oracle has software development centres in Bangalore and Hyderabad. The main focus of Oracle Software will be on offering solutions to create marketplaces in the business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) areas. The other areas will be software solutions for Internet firms and e-business solutions, Mr Dasgupta said. "We are looking at offering solutions for setting up call centres in India. The opportunities in call centres are tremendous and we want to build a huge base here with the latest technologies," he added. Oracle is talks with leading cellular service providers to offer its Web application protocol (WAP) software solutions.
The company has recently launched `portal-to-go', a WAP software solution, to address the cellular services market. He is hopeful that India can offer good business opportunities for Oracle and other software companies. "Going by the current revolution and the increase in telecom infrastructure, the Internet marketplace will explode in the country, which will offer potential business potential to the leading players," he added.
Oracle Corporation, the largest provider of software for e-business, has announced that membership in Oracle Technology Network (OTN) has surpassed the one million mark, growing at a rate of over 2,000 members per day. In India, the membership of this developer programme has grown to about 50,000 registered users, making India the largest country in Asia-Pacific in terms of OTN registrations, according to the company. As members of OTN, developers worldwide have access to free software and services necessary to help them successfully build valuable businesses around the Oracle Internet platform. OTN members work with the latest open Internet technologies in conjunction with Oracle's Internet platform and application development tools.
