ISIGIEC floats fresh tenders to procure sugar for export

New Delhi, Sept 3: Indian Sugar and General Industry Import Export Corporation (ISIGIEC), has floated fresh tenders to procure sugar for exports to Pakistan. The tenders have been floated to procure one lakh tonnes of sugar and ISIGIEC has sent the bids to about 200 millers, a majority of which are concentrated in Northern India, Corporation sources said.

ISIGIEC is concentrating on the northern region as it is a good supplier of 100 Icumsa quality of sugar, (white sugar) which Pakistan had demanded. Pakistani commerce minister had on August 29 said that the neighbouring country was not averse from importing sugar from India.

Pakistan, which was a sugar exporter for the last two years, started importing sugar earlier this year bacause of a slide in dometic output to 2.45 million tonnes during the fiscal as against the demand of 2.9 million tonnes.
