New Delhi, Sept 3: The Delhi government is in the process of scrutinising responses for its global tender for retrofitting CNG kits on the existing fleet of Delhi transport corporation's diesel buses, Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit said. The Delhi government, which is also testing the CNG buses supplied by Ashok Leyland and TELCO, have directed the two companies to supply 500 buses each by October, Ms Dikshit told newspersons here after launching the Eicher Designer Ambulance late last evening.
''We have received around eight to ten responses to the global tender we had floated for retrofitting CNG kits on the existing DTC fleet. We are studying the responses. I am not sure of the exact stage at which the scrutiny is at present,'' Ms Dikshit said.DTC, she said, has as yet received around 100 CNG buses from Ashok Leyland and only five from TELCO. ''the rest are likely to come soon.''''The government is also working towards creating dedicated cycletracks within the city. The project has been on for some time but the multiplicity of ownership of roads is playing a stumbling block in the exercise.
The city already has a 14 km stretch of cycle track in north Delhi and another on the Nizammudin bridge in east Delhi, but both the tracks are sparingly used. A dedicated cycle track is also being planned on Vikas Marg in east Delhi,'' the Chief Minister said.
The designer ambulance has already been prototyped and will come into regular production in six months. The modular ambulance has been designed and developed as per international standards under a joint initiative between eicher motors, IIT Delhi, St Stephen's Hospital and Inventech India.
Its special features include a scoop stretcher for patients with back injuries, a foldable stair chair, a trolley stretcher and provision for oxygen backup.
