Peugeot recalls 40,000 cars French carmaker
Peugeot is recalling more than 40,000 vehicles of its 206 model from European and worldwide markets over an airbag problem, the company announced on Sunday. "All these vehicles will be recalled. The process is already underway in some countries," a Peugeot spokesman told AFP. The company said in a statement that it would be recalling a total of 40,962 vehicles produced between June 1999 and March 2000 because of a problem with the lateral (side) airbag which caused it to inflate without reason. The fault in no way affected the function of the airbag during an impact or collision, the spokesman said. The German weekly magazine Focus reported in its issue to be published on Monday that the French car maker had recalled some 6,800 cars sold in Germany after airbags inflated in mid-journey for no reason.
