Calcuttans can now buy books online

Our eFE Bureau
Calcutta, Sept 1: Firstandsecond.com, the online retailer of books on Friday announced its entry in the Calcutta market. Created by Delhi-based eFirst Solutions India (P) Ltd, the retailer says it has over a million books online. For Calcutta's Netizens, the retailer claimed, it can offer a product range and prices that cannot be matched by even College Street, the Mecca of booklovers, students and academics for generations.

Firstandsecond.com said it will offer discounts of up to 30 per cent, apart from "sizzler points" for every book purchased from it. Buyers can even ask for books that are not available with firstandsecond.com - the retailer will procure it and notify the buyer. The company said online buyers can select a book, read its reviews and buy it online. The book will be delivered by courier after the buyer has paid by either cheque, credit card, demand draft and postal orders. The retailer said it has payment tieups with HDFC Bank and Global Trust Bank, apart from strategically located drop boxes all over town. Students can make money by taking orders from friends.

The student who places the order will get delivery in bulk, and will have to distribute the books and collect payment. Such "entrepreneur" students can earn up to Rs 10,000 per semester.
