Mumbai: Truck freight rates from Mumbai to most places declined as the cargo movement slowed down in the last week. The two-day transporters strike in Mumbai did not affect the freight market much, transporters said.The truck rates are likely to remain stable in the coming week, they added. The rates for the nine-tonne load from Mumbai to Jammu and Srinagar fell by Rs 500 each while those to Baramullah remained steady at Rs 24,000. Rates to Himachal Pradesh were stable.
Freight rates to Delhi declined marginally by Rs 200 to Rs 12,800. Consequently, the rates to neighbouring states of Haryana and Punjab saw a similar fall in the rates. Unlike most of the states, truck rates to Bihar firmed up last week as the cargo movement picked up to the state. For instance, rates to Patna went up to Rs 21,500 from Rs 20,300. Rates to remaining cities in the state also saw a Rs 200-Rs 1,000 hike.
On the other hand, truck rates to Uttar Pradesh declined by Rs 200-500. Freight rates to Gujarat also underwent a correction. The rates to Surat fell by Rs 400 to Rs 3,200 while rates to Kandla were down by Rs 500 to Rs 5,200. Truck rates to Madhya Pradesh also decreased by around Rs 500.Rates to Rajasthan too witnessed considerable fall in the last week. Freight rates to Jaipur fell by Rs 1,000 to Rs 9,800. In the east, Mumbai to Assam rates remained stable.
However, rates to neigbouring state, West Bengal witnessed some good rises on account of Durga Puja. For example, the rates to Calcutta were up by Rs 1,500 to Rs 24,000. The rates to Cuttack in Orissa also went up b Rs 700 to Rs 16,500. While the eastern states saw rise in truck rates, the rates from Mumbai to most southern cities declined during last week. Rates to Bangalore were down by Rs 1,200 to Rs 9,800 while those to Cochin were down by Rs 1,000. Freight rates to Chennai fell by Rs 500 to Rs 13,000.
