Alcatel plans to expand operations in India
Alcatel, the software major offering end-to-end solutions, plans to expand its operations in India with 200 engineers at its software development centre in Bangalore in the next three years, a top company official said on Friday. The company's chief technology officer, John Bailey, told reporters after the inauguration of the new development centre in Bangalore that Alcatel would tap the Indian engineers and raise its employee strength to 200 from the present 60 in the next two to three years.

.New name for productorium, planetcustomer merged co
Productorium.com and planetcustomer.cm on Friday announced that the new entity formed after the merger between the two companies will be called productorihigh court. In keeping with the mission of the company, the branding of the company-including the URL-will be planetcustomer.com. The announcement of the name of the merged entity is the first major announcement from the company since the merger. The merged portal, with its new look, will be online within a period of six weeks. Eastman Kodak, HP announce JV Eastman Kodak and Hewlett Packard on Friday announced that their joint venture company focusing on digital photo-finishing solutions would be named Phogenix imaging.

"The name was chosen to reflect the joint venture's focussed approach in the field of digital photo-finishing solutions," the company said in a release in New Delhi. The company would develop retail digital inkjet photo-finishing equipment and supplies, it said. "The company set up in April this year would be supported by HP's thermal inkjet technology and Kodak's imaging science," it added. Mascot Systems in pact with Royal Caribbean Mascot Systems Ltd on Friday announced a three-year contract with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd to provide applications maintenance outsourcing for the Cruise Line's reservation system. A company release said that the $3.8 million project consists of two phases. Mascot Systems will provide it maintenance and support for Royal Caribbean's external booking products, internal individual and group reservations and guest accounting systems.

Mascot also will maintain and support the company's air/sea tours.

TRAI paper on public mobile radio trunking service provider
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Friday released the consultation paper on licensing issues relating to public mobile radio trunking service providers (PMRTSPs) for public consultation. This is in pursuance of the reference received by the TRAI from the Government as mandated by the New Telecom Policy 1999. MTIL signs JV with Canadian companyMicro Technologies India ltd (MTIL) has set up a joint venture company with Canada-based Avaco International with an initial equity base of $1 million to develop high tech software for the Canadian market. Both the companies have a 50 per cent equity partnership in the new entity, MTIL chief executive P Sekhar told reporters in Mumbai on Friday. "We expect a business of $5 million in the first year of our operations in Canada," Avoco Intl director Ajay said.
