Groundnut oil drifts on lower seasonal demand

Mumbai, Aug 24: Groundnut oil ruled weak on the oil,oilseeds market here today. Castorseed and its oil finished lower in absence of overseas support and expectation of bumper new crop, dealers said.

Groundnut oil fell from Rs 392 to Rs 387 per 10 kg. Low seasonal enquiries coupled with news of fresh round of rain in the producing centeres attributed to setback. In Rajkot prices remained subdued at Rs 675/680 per 15 kg.

Imported palm oil, at one stage looked up from Rs 212 to Rs 214 per 10 kg on expectation of hike in the import duty. But later on weak global advices pulled down prices to Rs 210/211 per 10 kg. Palm oil prices in the global market fell by $5 at $285 per tonne for nearby delivery and at $290/295 per tonne for long deliveries, it was learnt.

Castor oil fell by Rs 3 at Rs 324/336 per 10 kg. Castorseed ready were down by Rs.15 at Rs 1,470 per quintal in sympathy.

In the future section castorseed September delivery settled lower from Rs 1,454 to Rs 1,448 while December delivery slipped from Rs 1,312 to Rs 1,296 per quintal on fresh bear selling, floor sources said. In Ahmedabad castorseed December delivery reacted to Rs 1,311 and in Rajkot at Rs 1,282 per quintal.

In the international castor oil future market October delivery maintained at Rs 340 per 10 kg. In the forward section RBD palmolien October delivery placed a rupee up at Rs 216 and November and December deliveries remained untraded, dealers said.

Bullion softens
Gold and silver prices depressed further on the bullion market here today.

Standard gold closed Rs 35 lower at Rs 4,500 per 10gm. Gold .22 carat was down by same margin at Rs 4,160 per 10 gm. in sympathy. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) crashed by Rs 400 at Rs 52,600 per piece. Festival buying for gold was lower than expected as continued local supplies and weak global advices pulled down prices, it was learnt. Uptrend in dollar value against rupee had failed to cheer up the market sentiment as gold prices in the international market remained weak at $272/272.10 ($273.50) per ounce.

Meanwhile silver .999 softened by Rs 40 at Rs 7,930 per kg. Silver .916 closed Rs 55 lower at Rs 7,810 per kg. Industrial and seasonal buying remained at a low ebb in the falling market while steady supplies of raw silver from local sources coupled with prevailing bearish Delhi and overseas advices prompted fresh round of selling among stockists. In the global market silver closed lower from $4.84 to $4.77 per ounce amidst active selling by China, it was gathered.

Yarn listless
In a moderate volume of business, prices depicted steady condition on the yarn market.

Viscose filament yarn bright cones first quality Century Rayon 150 dn ruled at Rs 190 and 120 dn at Rs 200 a kg. In the case of coarse deniers, 180 dn were quoted at Rs 183, 225 dn at Rs 154, 300 dn at Rs 149, 450 dn at Rs 136 and 600 dn at Rs 131. 120 dn dull cones were on offer at Rs 207.

Nylon yarn semi- dull 15/1/0 dn Shreelon were on offer at Rs 300 and Modipon at Rs 297. Gujnil 20/1/0 dn were traded at Rs 295, 30/1/0 dn at Rs 320, 111/24/0 dn at Rs 164 and 20 dn twinkle at Rs 260.

Grains unchanged
A steady condition was noticed on the grains market. Activity was restricted.

Green peas USA Rumba/ Heart were traded at Rs 1,200, Canadian at Rs 861 and white peas Canadian at Rs 961 a quintal. Tur Myanmar old were placed at Rs 1,275, new at Rs 1,375-1,400, Malawi at Rs 1,325-1,350, Kenya at Rs 1,450-1,475 and Tanzania at Rs 1,525-1,550 a quintal.

Australian gram were on offer at Rs 1,500 and Canadian at Rs 1,325-1,350.

Kabuli gram, A-2, Mexico ruled at Rs 4,000, Canada/ USA at Rs 3,700-3,800, B-2 Canada at Rs 3,600, Australian at Rs 3,400-3,500 and Turkey/ Iran at Rs 3,000-3,200. C-2 were quoted at Rs 2,200-2,600 and natural at Rs 2,800-2,900.

Wheat milling were placed at Rs 710-715 and Punjab Tukadi at Rs 751-761. Rice Gujarat-17 were mentioned at Rs 1,200-1,500.

Cotton ends lower
A dull to weak condition was in evidence on the cotton market following slack mill demand.

Ready Punjab zone, J-34 saw ginned good average Haryana ruled unchanged at Rs 1,830-1,870, but Rajasthan lost Rs 20 at Rs 1,835-1,855 a maund spot.

Cart selected Punjab also lost Rs 20 at Rs 1,905-1,950, although Haryana ruled static at Rs 1,910-1,925. Bengal Deshi roller ginned good average Haryana shed Rs 5 at Rs 1,060-1,065 while Punjab at Rs 1,020-1,050 and Rajasthan at Rs 1,050-1,055 were quietly steady.

New crop October delivery Rajasthan J-34 saw ginned good average at Rs 1,665 and Bengal Deshi roller ginned at Rs 1,065 ruled unchanged.

Most Gujarat cottons were lower by Rs 100. V-797 ruled at Rs 13,600-13,800, Morabi Wagad at Rs 13,000-13,100 and Kalan ginned at Rs 12,500-12,600 a candy spot. Sanker average ruled at Rs 18,000-19,000 and superior at Rs 19,500-20,500. New crop LRA MP Sandhva were placed at Rs 19,300-19,500 and Bijapur at Rs 20,500-20,700.

Sugar quiet
A steady trend was in evidence on the sugar market. Activity was moderate.

M-30 ruled at Rs 1,545-1,555 and S-30 at Rs 1,525-1,540 a quintal ex-octroi checkpost. Ex-godown, M-30 were placed at Rs 1,560-1,580 and S-30 at Rs 1,540-1,560.In tenders, M-30 were indicated at Rs 1,490-1,495 and S-30 at Rs 1,475-1,485 in Kolhapur line.

Delhi
Kochi stockists and speculators started projecting lower output due to paucity of rains and on hectic buying by the speculators, cardamom small chitridar and colour Robin looked up by Rs 10 at Rs 360-490 a kg while cardamom brown slipped by Rs 5 a kg as arrival of new cardamom brown in Siliguri has commenced.

Common bold soanf shot up from Rs 3400-4000 to Rs 3600-4500 a quintal.

Among dry fruits, on stockists buying for Deepawali, cashew kernel firmed up by Rs 5 at Rs 260-310 a kg. Almond kernel California ruled easy due to poor offtake while pistachio Irani revealed a firm tendency on better demand.

Copra suffered a sharp fall of Rs 100 a quintal as festive demand was over.
