Excel Ind to start chain of waste treatment plants

Mumbai, Aug 24: Excel Industries is set to commission a number of waste treatment plants in the country.

A 300 tonne plant at Thiruvananthapuram was commissioned on a build-operate and transfer ( BOT) basis and was completed in a record period of five months, Excel Industries general manager KSV Nair, who oversaw the Kerala operations, said. The plant, built at a cost of Rs 9 crore, is expected to produce 50,000 tonne of organic manure every year, he said. A similar plant in Calicut was commissioned last month.

Excel is also providing full technical support to set up a model plant of 300 T capacity at Kanoor in Kerala. This will act as a central processing plant for seven municipalities and 10 panchayats, who, in turn, will be supplying waste for the plant. Other plants nearing completion include a 100 T plant at Shillong, a 100T plant in Simla to be funded by a Norwegian agency with technical support from Excel and a 300 T plant at Chandigarh for a private entrepreneur.

Besides, a 200 T solid waste composing plant for the Mysore City Corporation, being set up on a turnkey basis, will be built and operated by Excel through a local enterprise. It is funded by ADB, a company release said.Excel is also in the process of sealing a major deal in the Philippines-Metro Manila project.
