One-stop-IT-shop -- Hartron scouts for partner

The Haryana State Eectronics Development Corporation Limited (HARTRON) is scouting for strategic alliance with technology leaders to act as `one-stop IT-shop of Haryana government'. S K Saxena, managing director of HARTRON who gave a presentation on the occasion of a seminar organised on e-governance jointly with CII here that future plans included developing Haryana State wide area network with adequate bandwidth. The HARTRON would establish communication backbone in private sector and would develop data warehouse and data mining for strategic planning. Saxena informed that the state wide area network would ensure inter department connectivity for e-governance, departmental intranets and LAN and multi-user and multi-service facilities.

The quick and voluminous data transfer, video and voice communication and video conferencing, online applications and on line service querry and response would be the other facilities provided by Harnet. In the first phase, state capital would be linked with all district headquarters, in the second phase all district headquarters would be connected to tehsils and panchayats. The Harnet would build on dot optical network and VSATs through private sector communication network. To disseminate the benefits of information technology up to last mile and to make it a mass movement, the state government has decided to promote establishment of a broadband communication backbone network using optic fibre through private sector. The HARTRON has been given the responsibility of coordinating and implementing this project. Saxena said that the objectives would be high speed data communication,ensuring last mile linkages to government establishments.

Information kiosks to act as government interface to citizens all over the state. The corporation would set up Web mandis, agriculture management, would work towards disaster management system and facilitate efficient e-governance. He informed that HARTRON and VSNL have signed a memorandum of understanding to set up a high speed communication link at electronics city, Gurgaon to facilitate the electronics and IT industry with an adequate bandwidth to cater to specific communication needs. The said link would be based on optical fibre and microwave technology. The HARTRON would provide land to VSNL for erection of tower in the STP complex. The joint seminar cum exposition on e-governance organised by HARTRON and CII which was inaugurated today by Haryana Chief Minister, Om Parkash Chautala would conclude on August 26 at the CII (northern region headquarters ) here.

Aditya Puri, chairman, CII, Haryana State Council welcomed the participants today while R S Varma, chief secretary Haryana and P K Chaudhery, commissioner and secretary, Industries, Haryana spoke during the occasion.

Lalit Yagnik, Head-e-business, IBM global Services Limited gave a presentation on e-governance during the occasion. Vishnu Bhagwan,Principal Secretary to chief minister was the session chairman. Speakers included experts from Microsoft Corporation India Limited, Shonkh Technologies International Limited, Mahindra British Telecom and NIIT limited. Another seminar slated to be held during the three-day exposition would be on connectivity and Internet.
