Our eFE Bureau
The Calcutta Municipal Corporation (CMC) has launched a portal to bring about more transparency in its activities. Called calmanac.org, the government to citizen (G2C) site will offer not only the latest information of CMC's activities, but will provide Netizens with a feast of the unique features that make Calcutta so special. Jointly hosted by the city-based TCG Software Services, Response Communications and CMC, the portal has been made ready in four months at an estimated cost of Rs 75 lakh. The portal is divided into two distinct sections. "calmanac" will provide information about CMC, education, health, rates and taxes, media briefs, trade licence, tenders, etc. "calpedia" will provide information about the city including its history, profile of the eminent city personalities, eateries in the city, transport, etc. Inaugurating the site, West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu said, "Its a coincidence that the portal is launched on a day which happens to be Calcutta's 310th birthday. The state governmenthas initiated a policy to boost IT education in the state. To complement that CMC has launched the site which will help people to download various forms, etc., in a very convenient way."Copyright © 2000 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
