With the "last step" being carried out currently, India's ambitious Light Combat Aircraft would take to the skies on a maiden flight "very soon," a senior official of the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, a principal partner in the LCA programme, said on Monday. Without giving any time-frame, he said, "We are very, very close for the maiden flight".
Opening up of STD sector historic: CII
The Confederation of Indian Industry has said the opening up of the domestic long distance telephone sector with the government announcing the guidelines yesterday was a historic step in the de-regulation of the telecom sector and said it would result in significant invstment from domestic and foreign companies.
Computer Associates' plans
Computer Associates International Inc is planning to float three new joint ventures in the country in the areas of telecommunication, Internet and application software. The company is also planning to step up its investments in the country to $130 million from the earlier expected $100 million over a period of years.
Videocon to make 5-lakh Net TVs
Videocon group would restrict its ISP service only to the users of Videocon Internet TV. These Internet TVs would be manufactured at the company's new Rs 200 crore integrated CTV assembly lines at Chitegaon and Bhalgaon near Aurangabad.
Sensex up 41 points
The markets took a turn upwards after the mid-session on Monday, boosted mainly by some good buying in ITC and some of the new economy stocks, including Zee Tele and Infosys. At the final count, the Sensex was up 41.50 points to 4232.

Indian Oil Corporation has contracted Standard and Poor's and Moody's for global rating for its long term borrowing needs to part finance its Rs 60,000 crore investment plans over the next 7 years.
ONGC to shortlist exploration partners
ONGC is to soon shortlist partners for exploration in the six blocks granted to it under the National Exploration Licensing Policy. "We have shortlisted 17 firms for joint venture exploration, including Total of France and British Gas," ONGC CMD BC Bora said.
