Hindustan Seals to make carbon dioxide plant

Jaidev Majumdar
Calcutta, Aug 14: Manaksia group flagship Hindustan Seals Ltd is setting up a plant to make carbon dioxide generating and recovery equipment, used by soft drink makers, breweries and food processors. The company said in a statement that the plant, being set up in technical collaboration with Wittemann Inc of the US near Hyderabad, will begin operations in October this year.

The technical collaboration with Wittemann covers design, fabrication and installation of the carbon dioxide plant and components for user industries. Apart from meeting the requirements of Indian manufacturers, Manaksia is looking forward to exporting the plant to south-east Asian countries, the company said.

The release quoted Manaksia group chairman and managing director BK Agrawal as saying that the technical collaboration with Wittemann will give the company an edge over rivals. Fermented carbon dioxide gas treatment plant is essential for soft drink industries and breweries, for which Hindustan Seals is the leading supplier of crown closures, or the corrugated-edge bottle caps. The Calcutta-based is also the leading manufacturer of ROPP or roll-on pilfer-proof caps used by the liquor industry.

The tieup will also give the company access to the latest technology for treatment of fermented carbon dioxide gas.
