Industry, business chambers hail opening up of NLD
The industry and business chambers have hailed the government announcement of opening up National Long Distance Services (NLDs) to the private sector. In a press release, FICCI President, GP Goenka, said this announcement would certainly provide rural phone connectivity, extend Internet connectivity in the rural areas and therefore make possible its application in the rural areas and make possible its application in traditional industries and in the agricultural sector across the country.

Fabmart introduces Fabmoney for patrons
Online supermarket Fabmart has introduced Fabmoney, a new payment option for those who do not possess a debit/credit cards, to shop online. Fabmoney will be available at select cyber-cafes called Fabpoints in six cities (Bangalore, Calcutta, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai). Fabmoney will be available in denominations of Rs 100 and in steps of Rs 50 thereafter and will contain a secure 17 digit number as a payment code for the customer and is redeemable at all the stores of Fabmart.

Electronics Corporation of India Limited has received an "award for excellence in the area of Instrumentation and Industrial Electronics." ECIL is a leading manufacturer of wide range of control and Instrumentation system in Nuclear, Thermal Power Plants, Steel and Coal Sectors.

Web-based healthcare network to be launched
Chennai-based e-comm solutions Pvt Ltd (ECS), a software development company, will launch on August 21, healthcareindia.com, a Web-based health commerce network, dedicated for healthcare sector in India. The site will be a `virtual' marketplace for the entire healthcare industry.

GIS maps available on indiaproperties
Indiaproperties.com has announced the availability of interactive geographic information system (GIS) on its portal. Consumers can closely examine the surroundings in which they wish to buy or rent property on a map of that particular locality. The GIS maps will cover all the 170 cities in which indiaproperties.com has a listing of properties. The site has also unveiled the wireless application protocol (WAP) enabled e-mail technology for its members.

Net4India offers free Net access on Independence Day
Net4India, an Internet service provider for the small and medium enterprises (SMEs), has announced a free net access on the occasion of the Independence Day. Internet users in New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Chennai can download the Internet dialer software from Net4India's Website and have an access to the Net free of cost for the entire day till midnight of August 15.

MP govt to computerise commercial tax department
The Madhya Pradesh government has started a scheme for fully computerising the state commercial tax department with a view to improve the efficiency of tax collection. Computerisation will also lead to greater convenience for tax payers, Madhya Pradesh minister for commercial taxes, Satyanarayan Sharma said in a release on Monday.

TCG Software centre in Gurgaon
TCG Software on Monday opened a JAVA Centre of Excellence for M-Commerce in Gurgaon. Headquartered in New Jersey, USA, TCG Software plans to develop software for mobile Internet telephony at the centre. This is part of TCG's growth plans in India. TCG has started off with 15 software engineers and plans to have a base of 35 engineers by the year end, and 150 within 12 months.
